Liam the Dog needs a home

ntroducing our newest paw and his story! Welcome Liam to AZK9! Liam actually joined the rescue a couple weeks ago. His rescue story though has already been quite the journey. Around New Years we were following up on a lead of a dog matching the description of one of our alumni, Sammy, that is still missing. This dog was seen running along the access road of 67th avenue and the 101 freeway and on the property of the Arrowhead Country Club in Glendale. Not far from where Sammy was lost, we had so much hope that it was him. We dropped our dog trap near the lake where he had been seen sleeping and where others trying to catch him had been leaving food. 5 hours later we had him! But sadly it was not our Sammy but a skinny Boxer/Pit Bull mix that was extremely terrified. Come to find out after talking with employees of the country club and searching back on a local lost dog page Straydar, this boy had been out there a month and a half. No wonder he was terrified, he was all alone trying to survive a place that was unfamiliar to him. After getting him home we were excited to see he was neutered. Could he be microchipped too? He was!!! That almost never happens. We contacted the owners, hopeful that we would be reuniting a dog who was lost and the owners were desperate to find and missing him. Sadly, that was not the case. Owner rehomed him to a cousin who rehomed him to another family member. All who lived far away. We have no idea how he got so far north. Nobody wanted him back, nobody was missing him. We never heard back from the owner, who did not even thank us for helping his dog. It was also found in the X-rays that he had BBs in his back end. At some point someone has shot at him while he was running away. We can't fathom why anyone would shoot at a dog but we know it happens. This sweet boy deserves much better and we will make sure he gets the best home that he deserves. This boy was previously named Oso. Because we never use same name twice and this boy was in need of a new start we chose to rename him. We reached out to a rescue friend who recently lost her soul dog and asked her if she would give him a new name in honor of her dog Hades who had passed away. Liam is an Irish name for a red headed boy. We love it and think it's a great fit for him. Another special touch to this story is Liam wears a collar passed on by Hades.????? Liam has completely come out of his shell and left his old life behind. He loves sunbathing on the lawn chair and curling in for some cuddles and love. He is a goofy boy and well behaved. His bloodwork came back all normal which is good. He does have arthritis and a bad knee and hips. We are discussing a plan with the orthopedic surgeon to see what would be the best route to take with Liam and if surgery will be necessary. We do know he is a no go with cats. Liam is about 8 years old and just another one of our lovely seniors looking for a forever home.
